Balance Between Body and Spirit

Our spirits expansive and unlimited, somehow end up coming to Earth in physical form with limitations, boundaries, and physical rules governing material existence.

As a tree spirit inhabiting the physical world, I was limited during my life by the depth of my roots, the height and weight and reach of my limbs, the nourishment available in the soil, the quality and quantity of available light each day, the length and duration of the seasons, the surrounding trees and their roots and branches, the rainfall and weather conditions in this place.

My spirit took a chance with physical life and took root many decades ago. My life was a magnificent work of art! Life was all I knew. And life was beautiful. My spirit could not be separated from my physical body.

Your basic human survival needs dictate the conditions of your life. You must have water, food, shelter, touch, nurturing from others as a child, exercise, a group to belong to… The deep longings of spirit will also inform and shape your life in profound ways.

Gravity holds your body to the Earth even as your spirit longs to soar sometimes and wants to be free, unencumbered by the confines and needs of the body.

Even if you are not aware of your spirit, behind the scenes it sets the agenda for your life and helps to guide you toward your highest good. It is the quiet voice telling you “there is more to life…” Pay attention!

This is the challenge of life on Earth for humans – creating a healthy balance between body and spirit

Live honoring all you are~ Body and spirit

Earth and Spirit

As 2 legged beings, you have no physical roots to anchor you to the Earth as plants and trees have. You have the freedom and the free will to choose the path you walk upon this Earth. You have the ability to change course, to choose a new direction.

The ability to choose your course wisely in life increases as you connect with both Earth and Spirit. Some think the two realms are mutually exclusive. That belief will harm you and cause you to be less than you can be! You do not have to choose one or the other. You can live fully in your body while allowing your spirit to guide you.

This is what it means to be fully human.

Your challenge is to live in your body, immersed in your physical life, knowing the joys, pleasures, and sorrows of the body within its temporary life span, while at the same time, knowing the presence of your indestructible spirit that precedes and underlies your physical existence.

Tiny feather in winter

Your body connects you to the earth for your sustenance, your survival, your human experience which instructs your spirit. It anchors your spirit in time and space as roots anchor a tree.

Your spirit guides your physical being with love and increasing wisdom from lifetime to lifetime. It helps you remember lessons you’ve learned in the past and helps you know your gifts and use them wisely.

You can bridge both worlds and live both in the heady realm of spirit and the earthy realm of the body. You will get better at it the longer you live and the more you ask for integration. Living this way is an unfolding process of discovery.

Like a tree fully alive from root to crown, drawing in nourishment from the Earth and light from the heavens, you are creating one beautiful and fully integrated whole.

Wheel of the year

It is the season for low slanting sunlight, the silent message all living creatures are attuned to. Summer is past, winter will come. The wheel of the year turns.

Live each day, each moment, each breath fully, for the cycle of the year teaches us that all physical things change – nothing you can see, touch, taste, hear, smell, hold in your hand is permanent. Even the rocks beneath your feet will erode away. The huge trees that shade and shelter you will grow old and decline as young trees take their place in the canopy.

You too are an integral part of the wheel of life.

Can you let go of what was once true about you and accept the realty of your now? Perhaps you still expect to see a physically beautiful young adult looking back from your mirror, but instead see a gray haired grandparent…

Beneath the physical aspect of our reality – which so many of you seem so attached to – lies your indestructible spirit and that, my dear will never grow old, never die.

As the earth cycles into a new season, as your body grows older, as the landscape changes beneath your feet, Remember your indestructible spirit that lies at the very heart of your existence here on our beloved planet.
