Time for Spring Cleaning!

Are you surrounded by an accumulation of too much stuff? Is your brain filled to bursting with too many thoughts, ideas, worries, fears, or emotional baggage?

It’s time to spring clean, time to release the old, the worn out, that which no longer floats your boat, makes you happy, gives you joy. That which holds you back in life.

Do you have the confidence to let go of objects that gather dust, furniture that over-stuffs your rooms, knick knacks and tchotchkes that came into your life for some reason years ago that you keep out of habit, things others chose for you, clothes that no longer reflect who you’ve become or who you are becoming?

Making room in your home will allow more flow in your life! Your space will breathe with more light and air and better energy movement.

Do you have the courage to face and heal the tired old habits of thought, the stale and possibly smelly emotions that keep you stuck, the fears that hold you back, the worries that muddy your precious days?

Clearing emotional baggage will help raise your frequency and assist in bringing clarity of purpose and more joy and creativity to your life.

De-clutter your mind and spirit, spring clean your soul and glow with clear energy, thoughts and actions that support who you’ve become, who you choose to be, who you wish to become.

You are the interior designer of your entire life! You get to choose what to think and feel, what to bring in to your physical presence, how you want spirit to express itself in your life.

Every design choice you make – what to keep, what to discard, what thoughts to entertain in your brain, what emotions to address – creates your life now!

Stand in your truth

When others push and fuss and nag do you waiver from what you know to be true? Are you pulled off your true course and from your true work by the strong opinions and wishes of others?

Look to the trees to teach you how to stand in your truth.

Grandmother Cottonwood

We trees can show you deep rootedness. Roots keep us upright strong and flexible as we weather fierce storms and sudden downpours. When you are firm in your truth, you are anchored deeply in your true knowing no matter which way the wind blows.

Our tall trunks reach unerringly to the light with no doubt and no hesitation. You stand in your truth when you release doubt and claim your space and your right to be here and think for yourself.

We spread our limbs and branches, twigs, and buds to soak in the light that will nourish and feed us. In this way, we can show you that it is vital to partake in the blessings of this life, to nourish yourself with spirit. To claim your place in the sun.

Grandmother Cottonwood

Anchor deeply to your home, stand tall in your truth and live in the light.

When you need support and guidance for standing in your truth, look to the trees.

True beauty

Paying attention only to your outward beauty, that which is “skin deep” is getting your beauty regimen backward!

To truly shine and glow with light, to look and feel and be your best and brightest, begin at your center. The center of your being, your spirit.

Hackberry bark

This glow of inner health, the authenticity of wholeness and well being can’t be faked or mimicked with makeup, hair color, surgery, lasers, botox.

Old emotions stuck in your energy field from the past, fear, anxiety, worry, weigh you down and dim your light. Others can feel it and sense it in you.

If you do not like yourself when you look in the mirror, if your spirit is flagging, go deeper into your heart and soul, to your inner light and begin here to reclaim your true inner beauty.

You know you are not at your best when you feel stuck and you worry and fret about your looks. This is a distraction from the true work of your life, the true and joyful work of living from your center.

Begin to gently clear and cleanse and heal and release the stale and stuck emotions of the past. Like exfoliating the skin, it gives your spirit a brighter and healthier glow.

Find help in a trusted healer, counselor, friend, or clergy person when you are ready to begin your healing journey, your journey to reclaim the light you were born with.

Grandmother Cottonwood

This will allow the true light of your inner spirit to shine through and illuminate your life. When you are lit up, you are vital and vibrant with well-being and health. You are unconcerned about how others perceive you.

When you have tapped into this wellspring, you will know it and feel it. You will be too busy doing the true work of your life, you won’t have time to fret in front of a mirror, and won’t need others to validate your looks.

Remember this: True beauty is soul deep.

Promise of spring

Sunlight gradually returns to our beloved valley. Winter still reigns with ice snow and cold, but the promise of spring warmth and light and growth feed my dreams.

Soon our community of living beings will wake up. Sharp green shoots of prairie grasses will poke up through last years dead stems and leaves, attracted to the light and heat of the sun.

My tightly closed buds will once again swell and grow large, unrolling tender green leaves as they open to the strong spring light. My beaded seed pods will grow and mature in weeks, finally splitting open to release my seeded fluff on the world.

The vultures will return from their southern vacation to ride the warm updrafts above the evergreens, weaving their figure eights across our valley as they perform their cleanup duties and take their place in the web of life.

Our fur bearing friends will once again play in the treetops and build their nests or dig their burrows, mate and give birth, raise their young, and seek their daily bread.

Hibernating snakes toads and frogs will slowly emerge as the sun warms their hiding places. They’ll soak in the life giving energies of heat and light, warming their bodies in pools of sunlight.

Songbirds will soon return and bring color, music, movement, activity as they select their nesting place and build their beautifully constructed summer homes, lay eggs and raise their young.

The eternal cycle of life and the seasons will play out once again in this small valley we call home. We dream and plan for spring, the season of renewal and awakening.

The Plant Spirits Speak

We are ancient, wise in the ways of growing things that have existed on this planet for a hundred thousand centuries and more…

Summer Hosta Blooms

We create and hold sacred space among our copses and fields, our tall grass and short grass prairies, our city parks and farmsteads, our old growth forests and newly planted windbreaks, our shady riverbanks, our dry desert landscapes, our steep mountain slopes, our modest backyard gardens.

Each community of varied growth adapted to the climate, the realities of the place – each with its own wisdom, it’s own web of life, all plant citizens interweaving and complementing each other, communicating, living in harmony and balance.

We live and breathe and grow in what humans might erroneously call silence. We are not silent! It is just that your ears cannot hear our vibrations. Your eyes cannot see our energy. Your logical minds do not yet comprehend our plant wisdom. Your ears cannot hear or understand our communications.

But we speak to you eloquently in a language you can understand – with our winter sleep, our spring renewal, summer growth, and autumn release.

Golden cottonwood leaf and bark

We speak of the alchemy of light, the stability and necessity of roots, the miracle contained in a tiny seed, the ease of growth and expansion, of choosing a place to call home and settling in for the long haul. We speak of reaching to the sun. We speak of interdependent communities, of varied members living together in harmony. We speak of patience and acceptance. We speak of weathering the storm and enduring.

Can you hear us?

We lift our branches and leaves to the sun, rooted to Mother Earth.

A word to humans: Dear ones, for our continuing health and well-being and the well-being of this entire planet and all her inhabitants, we need soil and air and water free of artificial enhancements, pollutants and additives that act counter to our long term needs and create imbalances in the web of life. Please act to make this so within your circle of influence!

You belong on this Earth!

While you walk on this planet, breathe her air, drink her water, eat the sustaining foods that come from her fertile grounds, you belong here – all of you – body mind and spirit.

You are meant to be here at this time in this body. How do I know this? Because you are here right now in a body. Period.

Your spirit has chosen to live fully as a human being on this planet. You are part of a larger pattern you might not see now. There is a purpose to your life that is integral to the web of life, that is a vital filament in the pattern of all things. You are needed here!

When you are aging, when life hurts, when you are grieving, your body and mind may get tired and you may find yourself living in your head, possibly forgetting at times that you have a body.

You are meant to live fully embodied and to be whole. Your entire being is meant to fully experience what it is to be human; When it hurts and when it feels wonderful; When you are sick and when you are bursting with health; When you are unhappy and when you are vibrant with joy; When your soul is frustrated and when your soul is inspired and fully satisfied.

When you feel doubtful, when you are not sure you belong, you must choose life again with your body, heart mind and spirit so you can live life at its fullest and richest.

Find someone to talk to – a healer, counselor, dear friend, doctor, member of the clergy for help if this becomes difficult for you.

Recommit to living a fully embodied life, rich in the full spectrum of human experience.

Choose life!

Winter gifts

Have you gone outside on a midwinter day to lie on the cool crusty snow, letting the Earth take your weight and support you, the snow molding to your shape?

Winter deer path

Have you gone out to lie down and soak in the cool fresh air, to absorb the Earth Energy that powers you? To know your oneness with all of life?

Let the nearby trees weave a lacy net of branches for your protection. Know the solid fabric of their roots below the surface, creating a strong foundation for your physical life, holding and anchoring the soil that gives us life.

Let the clean cool air refresh and revitalize your energy, lift your spirits, the blue sky inspire your dreams, expand your mind, enlarge your knowledge of what is possible.

Dream and rest under the sky, letting the blanket of snow cushion and cradle you.

Let yourself be one with this Earth and accept her precious winter offerings.

Your sweet spot

Your sweet spot is found at the intersection of you at your best and brightest and you carrying out your true life’s purpose.

Do you crave the sweetness of being in the flow of your life, feeling on top of the world, and doing your best work, letting it pour effortlessly from you?

Yellow swallowtail butterfly on bee balm

When in your sweet spot you are expanded, focused, in the flow without judgment doubt or fear. You may lose track of time or even forget you have a body momentarily. Time in your sweet spot is satisfying to your soul.

You have felt this, and you can feel this again. If you are doubtful, remember what you felt as a child laying on the Earth watching the clouds float by, playing with your beloved pet, laughing with a friend, finding shells and stones on a beach… A child’s true work is play!

Some call your sweet spot alignment with source, or connecting with divine light while in a body. The light fills you and calls you to your soul’s true purpose

Then life is sweet. It flows with an uncommon ease. All is accomplished with grace, without overthinking, striving, or pushing others out of the way to get ahead.

Unlike a craving for sweet foods like candy or honey, cookies or cake, time in your sweet spot has no side effects, causes no health problems. It’s like a sugar high, only good for you!

When you spend time in your sweet spot you feel wonderful and the Earth prospers! This is the true currency of life.

Listen to the Earth

Put your ear to the ground. What do you hear? In what language does our Earth speak to you?

Can you hear the hundreds of thousands of earthworms turning and fertilizing the soil, carrying out their singular and necessary purpose in the web of life?

Can you hear the billions of roots of grasses, trees, wild plants and “weeds” food plants and flowers of all descriptions, reaching deep, stretching down, absorbing water and nutrients?

Deep rooted prairie grasses

Can you hear the fur bearing creatures in their dark and cool burrows, the snakes gliding almost silently along the Earth through the tall grass? Can you hear the nearby stream flowing quietly?

Can you hear the millions of ants creating their underground cities, marching in unison, intent on their building project, living their lives, feeding their families?

Can you hear the underground rivers, streams and aquifers, the water fresh and cool, lapping in dark rock shelters? Can you hear the slow dripping and dropping of lime infused water from ancient stalactites in secret caves so far beneath the surface of the Earth?

Can you hear the deep hum and vibrations of the bedrock, the foundation of ancient stones that supports our home?

Stone cairn

Can you hear the humming, the sound of creation as your ear tunes into the subtler frequencies of the Earth’s spinning, her movement in space?

Can you hear the deep and awesome harmony of creation? All is one great symphony of sound and vibration.

The earth speaks to us in her language of stone, metal, water, fire, air, soil, seasons, night and day, and abundant life of all descriptions.

Underlying all on our Earth is the sound of creation, the great hum.

The Joy of Being

Even in this dark and frozen time, I am alive and thriving. I am fully aware in the way of trees. My spirit never sleeps.

Grandmother Cottonwood

Here in my beloved home my roots reach deep into the soil. I do not question my existence. I do not worry. I do not fear. I simply am.

I do what trees everywhere do. I root to the earth and grow effortlessly toward the light. I respond to the seasons, sending out seeds in spring, bursting with growth in summer, releasing my leaves in fall, sleeping in the winter.

I am expansive. I am so much more than the magnificent tree you see before you. I feel what you humans would call love for this life.

This love is me. It is my energy, it is who I am. It may be invisible, but those who have the sensitivity, the ability to feel beyond the five senses will know it.

Life here on this patch of earth under the dome of the eternal sky, day and night, sun, moon, planets, and stars brings me what you humans might call joy.

Perhaps joy is my true purpose here…

…the joy of being, the joy of living, of expanding toward the light, the joy of knowing the precious gift of life!
