Expectations

What expectations do you have for your life? Do they correspond to reality?

Are you living with expectations that will never be, that leave you constantly disappointed, that taint your life with grudges, unhappiness and continual anxiety?

It is time for a reality check, a truth telling session with yourself so you can stop expending energy on fixing and rescuing others who cannot or don’t want to be rescued.

Perhaps you will find in your truth telling session that you have been striving to keep up false appearances, that life is not turning out the way you had planned or expected.

Perhaps you realize you have been on the trail of expected rewards for many years only to find they are not so rewarding once you achieve them.

Ask your heart for the truth in all areas of your life. Do not lie to yourself or let the ego or the icy grip of fear take over.

This truth telling session with yourself will take courage, stamina and integrity and most of all, self compassion and understanding.

Begin your truth telling session in your heart. Then you can reinvent your life on a foundation of wise and realistic expectations and the true desires of your spirit.

Be true to yourself!

Do you armor yourself against life’s hurts? Do you protect your vulnerable soft center from anyone seeing or knowing you fully? Have childhood experiences taught you to be tough, hold in the tears, project a calm and smiling face to the world when you feel pain and discomfort?

Your inner and outer selves must match for full happiness, full soul satisfaction, full participation in life. Be honest with yourself about what you are feeling and thinking, if only privately.  You separate yourself from source when you pretend to feel something you do not feel.

Do you present a strong and tough image to others when you feel weak and scared inside? Do you put on a happy and smiling face when you feel sad or angry or threatened?  Do you act interested when you are checked out, outraged when you really don’t care, indifferent when you care passionately,  loving and kind when you want to scream and throw things…?

When you lie to yourself, others will sense the falsehood because your energy doesn’t lie and cannot ever lie!  Others will sense what is true beneath the surface show, and respect you more when you allow the real you to shine through in your words and actions.

When you know and live the truth of who you are, you pave the way for real lasting relationships based on reality, not on an illusion that requires you to expend great effort to keep up, like the “great and powerful” Wizard of Oz.

When you are true to yourself, you light up!  The truth of who you really are at your center will shine through.
