Become water – a shamanic journey

Can you imagine with your heart and mind and all your senses, your body dissolving and becoming one with a stream of water? First, imagine yourself there in the stream, floating. Feel the silky water supporting your body as you float.

Now breathe and relax any tension in your head and face, your neck, shoulders, trunk, arms and hands, back, buttocks, legs, feet and toes.

Feel your physical reality gently dissolve and merge with the stream of water, allowing more and more space between your cells, letting any pain or anxiety drain away, releasing all worry, all fear, just letting yourself be. Don’t worry about breathing as water, it will come naturally.

Sunlight on shallow water

Can you imagine your cells gently becoming water droplets and moving easily with the flow of the current? Can you imagine yourself growing transparent? How does it feel, smell, look and sound like?

Nothing is more relaxed! You are suspended in the water, one with the water. You are the water!

There is nothing you have to do, nowhere to be, nothing to grasp, clutch, hold on to or resist. There is no need to hold yourself up, to think or worry or fight against. You float free, allowing the current to carry you.

Can you feel yourself flow easily around boulders, rushing where the stream bed is steep, falling over stone ledges, standing still in deep pools? Can you feel the warm sunlight striking the water and see it bending into the vibrant colors of the rainbow?

Now your stream merges with a larger river. Enjoy the beautiful landscape as you drift past; the trees, the wide river valley, as you flow smoothly, one with the life-giving water.

Now after many hundreds of miles, you enter a huge estuary, full of birds and wildlife of all descriptions, drawn to the life-giving waters. The river widens out and becomes salty as you enter the ocean surf and move out beyond the crashing waves into open water. Finally, you are home, where all water joins to become one. Here you can expand even more, suspended. One with all that is.

Enjoy the sensation of oneness with the water as long as you want to. Allow the water to clear and heal you. Allow it to sustain and support you. Let yourself be.

When you’re ready to call back your physical being and find your way back to solid earth, let your feet touch the floor, tap your cheekbones and chest, breathe.

Revisit this water journey whenever you want to relax and know your oneness with all that is.

Home to your heart

When you return home after a long trip or a day at work, or hours of rushing around doing errands, you can relax, be yourself, let down your guard.

At home you can do whatever you want to – wear sweat pants, drink right out of the milk carton, sing out of tune at top volume, feel what you feel.

At home you can lay on the ground under a tree in your yard, watching the branches sway, the shifting shade. You can ignore your to-do list for weeks, if you want to.

Likewise when you’re living in the past or future, when you’re hooked by feelings that drag you down, when you’re worried about problems in your life, you can come home to your heart and breath.

Place your palms over your heart and breathe. Bring awareness to your heart and chest  Relax into the rhythm and familiarity of your heartbeat, your inhalation and exhalation.

This is your calm place in a storm, a safe and peaceful home that is always with you. This is the haven where you regain your center and find clarity.

Your heart and breath offer a loving space where you can be yourself, can feel what you feel. In this place you can rest and go inward, you can be fully yourself and know the truth of who you are without having to defend or bargain, with no embarrassment or worry.

Come back home to your heart!

Be fully embodied

Do you spend precious moments wishing you were somewhere else, doing something else?

Do you tighten the interior of your body as you do this – perhaps your throat or your heart?

Pay attention to the subtle ways you shut down the flow of energy through your body and withdraw your attention from what is while avoiding the present moment. Do not feel singled out, Dear one, for all humans do this.

Your impatience with what is has distracted you from your beautiful life, made up of moments just like this. This is your life!  Life provides you with many chances to shift your focus and come into the power of your present moment each day.

Remedy this shutting down of your energy by giving attention to your inner world of feeling, sensation, muscle bone and blood, the subtle opening and closing, the inhale and exhale, pain and ease, contraction, expansion, warmth and coolness. The sensations of your body create a window for you to experience this present moment, to slow down, to be here now.

Will you reach the moment of your death and know that you were too impatient to be fully present for yourself and your beloved ones? Or will you choose to live fully embodied? Bring your awareness down into your body and live in this moment!

.

Access your power!

Does your mind outpace your body? Do you feel spacey and disconnected?

If your mind races ahead and leaves your body behind, you are living in the future and forgetting the present; neglecting your grounding in the here and now, your need for earth energy, for your full and complete presence in this time and place. Don’t jump or skip ahead!

If your body rushes ahead and leaves your mind in the dust, you are living in the past ; disembodied, perhaps getting yourself into situations that do not serve you well. Perhaps you feel stuck.

Can you bring your body mind and heart together and concentrate all your focus in this moment? Can you keep it together?

The present is where your power lies! When all of you is in the present.  This is the state of flow, where you are plugged into your power supply – All that is – and you have access to boundless energy.

Here’s a practice for you to help you pay attention to what is now. Choose one of the 5 senses: feel, taste, touch, smell, sight. Focus for a few minutes on only that information coming into your body and mind through that sense.

Can you narrow your focus that much, aligning body and mind and balancing your consciousness in this point in time? Can you gather all of yourself, your scattered energy, thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and know your wholeness?

In this way, you train yourself to be wholly present, to empower yourself and tap in to amazing energy!

Can you stop talking?

Can you stop talking for a time each day and sink deeper into your mind to a place that does not know speech?

Can you stop thinking, obsessing, ruminating, judging, and analyzing for a time each day and allow yourself to rest from the constant barrage of thoughts? A moment of peace?

Can you observe the flood tide of words and thoughts in your mind floating downstream and out of your awareness? Can you put down your shiny device, turn off the TV, the radio, the computer, the little object that beeps, blinks, and demands your attention? It may seem impossible!

Can you make some room in your mind for silence? Can you clear a space – your own private, peaceful refuge within your mind?

Can you slow down your pace just for a few minutes each day and touch the central core of you, the infinite, the loving, the deep, the expanded heart and soul of you? Can you become intimate with your true self?

Full spectrum

Rainbows make the invisible visible. Conditions must line up perfectly for the ephemeral beauty of fractured light to become visible to human eyes. Know that you too are make up of the full spectrum of color and light.

DSCN4721 (640x480) (428x320)

Have your colors and frequencies of light been dimmed by gray clouds caused by foreign substances and toxins you have ingested ; unexpressed feelings; words that stick in your throat? As you learn to let your feelings flow, your words and pent up emotions full expression, your true jewel like colors will radiate from you and fill your world with beauty.

From the slowest vibration of red, to the highest frequencies of violet, color can heal, color can restore harmony and balance to your life.

Meditate with color! Ask for whatever color is most needed to shine in the part of your body that will benefit from that frequency.

Allow the color to come through your mind’s eye without editing, expecting, blocking. Allow the healing color to delight and surprise you, to morph and transmute into other colors of the spectrum and go exactly where they are needed in your body.

You are light, you are the full spectrum of color. Words cannot describe the beauty and power of your amazing and breathtaking light .

Tree meditation

We trees are expert meditators, living in the here and now, observing what is without judgment; inhabiting ourselves fully from deepest roots to sunlit crown.

DSCN5122 (480x640)

We have an awareness of the breath of the earth, the waves and tides moving in and out, the winds, the seasons, the arc of the sun throughout the day, the brilliance and power of its light, the rising of life giving water through our roots, the magnetic pull of the earth, the many life forms we support and shelter, the moon phases and starlight that bathe us at night; the exquisite nuances of air, vibrating with thunder, soft with breezes, or high winds, roiling clouds thick with moisture.

We feel and know and observe it all.

We are rooted here now in this moment we have no need to question or analyze this fact or second guess or regret anything!

We simply take our place in the web of all that is, weaving a container for all beings on the earth with our branches and roots, crowning our beloved earth with our love.

Pay attention!

When you pay attention, you invest in your health and well-being.

Attention is being fully present and observing the sensations of your body, the feelings and emotions that flow through you, the thoughts that move through like clouds on a breezy spring day. It is observing what is – without opinion, perceiving the deep knowings within your heart that lie beneath the noisy surface chatter of daily life.

Attention is gentle focus without wavering, a disengaging of the brain, for the brain will talk you out of anything!

Attention is engaging a clear eyed focus on what is – without the running commentary, judgment, minimizing, fooling yourself, criticism, denial, delusion, propaganda, image management, or any of the tricks your brain can devise to pull you away from your true power.

When you attend without judgment to what is, you give yourself an amazing gift of clarity, of peace. You can release worry and fear and discover lightness of being.

Pay attention and taste the sweetness of this moment!

Questions for yourself

Do you ever ask yourself “Where do I begin and end? Where is my center? Where are my outer limits?”

Dear ones, your deepest being knows no limits. You may feel that you cease to extend past the end of your nose, yet those of you with sensitive antennae will know and feel and sense the energies and emotions of the larger world.

You can filter and set boundaries on what you sense to keep yourself focused on your own life. At times, when you are feeling good you may allow yourself to dissolve into energy particles and merge with all that is as you meditate.

The answers to your questions will change when you master this process. Your perspective will change. Your life will be transformed as you discover you are one with all things.

In this way you find that you are more powerful than you know, that the universe is made up of pure love, that you are eternal, that you are so much more than your body, that the universe has your back.

Sky-mind

One time the two-legged one went on a plane trip during a late winter storm. On the ground dense clouds blanketed the sky and high winds blew icy shards of snow. Within minutes after taking off, the plane broke through the cloud layer to an ocean of sunlight and crystal clear air.

DSCN1835

Late winter storm clouds

My dears, do you ever simply relax into the blue sky of your mind? It lies beyond the clouds, the storms and turbulence of your habitual thoughts and worries; the ever whirling tapes that continue to play and rewind, play and rewind.

This ocean of light is always available to you. Know it and trust that no matter how bleak the storm you can find the clarity and light that lies above and beyond it.

This light is the backdrop, the foundation of all that is. This is the still quiet sky-mind. It is beyond language, beyond thought, beyond feeling. It is simply the basis of your being.

Find this place within yourself in meditation. If meditation makes you crazy, focus on your breathing. Begin easily, focusing on your breath for five seconds, then build up to 10, 15, 30 seconds. Soon you will be able to let your attention rest on your breath for minutes at a time. As you take in and release air, know that you are one with all living things on this planet.

If your attention is hijacked by feelings or thoughts acknowledge them like clouds rolling across a blue sky and return to your breath. Your thoughts and feelings are not you, do not define you, but are simply moving energy. Like every storm they will pass and the sky will clear.
